Excludes depreciation, which depends heavily on your specific car and resale market and isn’t something we estimate without a verified source. Insurance, registration and maintenance are spread evenly across 12 months for comparison.

Fuel priced at current UAE rates. Insurance, registration and maintenance defaults are illustrative starting points, not quotes — enter your own real costs for an accurate total. See our methodology.

What’s included

Fuel is calculated from your monthly distance, economy and fuel type. Insurance, registration and maintenance are entered as annual figures and divided by 12 so they compare fairly against your other monthly costs. Loan or lease payments and average monthly tolls/parking are added directly.

Frequently asked questions

Why isn’t depreciation included?

Depreciation depends on your exact make, model, year, mileage and the resale market at the time you sell — it isn’t a number we can responsibly estimate without vehicle-specific, sourced data. Once our car database is live, this calculator will support model-specific depreciation estimates.

Where do the default insurance/maintenance figures come from?

They’re rough illustrative starting points, not a quote for your car — replace them with your actual policy cost and service history for an accurate result.

What a car running cost figure hides if you only look at fuel

Fuel is the cost most UAE drivers track closely because it’s paid in small, frequent amounts at the pump. But insurance, registration renewal, maintenance and financing are usually larger over a year, they’re just paid rarely enough to fade into the background. A car running cost calculator that only covers fuel and tolls will always understate what a car actually costs to keep on the road, which is why this tool folds in insurance, registration, maintenance and loan or lease payments alongside the numbers from the fuel cost calculator and Salik calculator.

The insurance and maintenance defaults are intentionally generic starting points rather than a quote, because those costs vary a lot by driver history, vehicle age and provider. Swapping in your actual renewal invoice and last service bill takes the estimate from roughly right to genuinely accurate for your specific car. If you’d like to see exactly how each line is combined into the monthly total, the methodology page documents the formula, with fuel prices sourced monthly and toll rates from the UAE Roads and Transport Authority.

Depreciation is deliberately left out for now, for the same reason it’s left out of every calculator on this site: it depends on the exact make, model, trim, mileage and resale market at the time you sell, and a generic estimate would do more harm than good. That’s a conscious limitation, not an oversight, and it’s flagged directly in the FAQ below the calculator.

Getting the most out of this car running cost calculator

Most car running cost calculator tools online only cover fuel. This one adds tolls, parking, insurance, maintenance and financing because that’s what actually determines whether a car is affordable month to month — fuel is usually the smallest line item once financing and insurance are counted. Run the same car running cost calculator with a couple of different monthly distances to see how much of your total is genuinely fixed (insurance, financing) versus variable (fuel, tolls, parking), since that split matters more than the total figure alone when you’re deciding whether to keep a car or trade it in.
