Dubai to Al Ain: Driving Cost & Route Guide (2026)
The Dubai–Al Ain drive on the E66 is one of the few genuinely toll-free intercity routes in the UAE. Here’s the real distance and what it costs in fuel alone at September 2026 prices.
Distance and drive time
| Figure | |
|---|---|
| Distance (one-way) | ~127–140 km |
| Drive time | 1 hr 30 min – 2 hr outside peak traffic |
| Main route | E66, via Al-Faqa’ and Al-Hayer; becomes Emirates Street/Bani Yas Road in Al Ain |
Fuel cost example
Using a 135 km one-way distance (270 km round trip), a car averaging 8 L/100km, and September 2026’s Special 95 price of AED 3.69/litre:
| Trip | Distance | Fuel used | Fuel cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| One-way | 135 km | 10.8 L | AED 39.85 |
| Round trip | 270 km | 21.6 L | AED 79.70 |
8 L/100km is an example figure — check your own car’s real-world economy and re-run this on the Trip Cost Calculator for an exact number.
Tolls: none on this route
This is the one intercity pairing where the maths is simple: Dubai’s Salik gates only charge you inside Dubai, and Abu Dhabi’s Darb gates only sit on roads inside Abu Dhabi city — not on the E66 corridor to Al Ain, which is a separate inland city, not part of Abu Dhabi city itself. Unless your trip also starts or ends inside one of those toll zones, a straight Dubai–Al Ain run has no Salik or Darb charges at all.
Total example: one round trip
Fuel only: AED 79.70. No tolls to add for a direct Dubai–Al Ain–Dubai round trip.
