EV Charging Cost Calculator UAE
This EV charging cost calculator estimates what it costs to charge and drive an electric car in the UAE, comparing home (DEWA residential tariff) and public (DEWA Green Charger) charging.
Please enter valid numbers: distance and efficiency above zero, home share between 0 and 100.
Charging cost for this distance
AED 0.00
DEWA residential tariff is tiered by monthly consumption (AED 0.23-0.38/kWh) plus a fuel surcharge and 5% VAT — the default here is a mid-tier estimate. Check your own DEWA bill for your exact rate. Abu Dhabi (ADDC/AADC) rates differ.
Public rates: DEWA Green Charger AC ~AED 0.70/kWh, DC (fast) ~AED 1.20/kWh, both plus VAT. Home rate default AED 0.32/kWh reflects DEWA’s 2,001-4,000 kWh residential slab plus surcharge, before VAT. See data sources.
How EV charging cost is calculated
Energy needed in kWh is your distance ÷ 100 × the car’s efficiency in kWh/100km. That energy is split between home and public charging by the percentage you set, and each portion is priced at its own rate, then added together.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my actual DEWA bill different from this estimate?
DEWA’s residential tariff rises in tiers as your total household consumption increases, plus a fuel surcharge and 5% VAT that vary slightly month to month. This calculator uses one representative rate rather than modelling your full household bill.
Does this apply outside Dubai?
Home rates are DEWA (Dubai) specific. Abu Dhabi’s ADDC/AADC and other emirates’ utilities have their own tariffs — adjust the home rate field if you’re elsewhere.

Why EV charging cost depends on where you plug in
The single biggest variable in any EV charging cost estimate isn’t the car’s efficiency, it’s the split between home and public charging. DEWA’s residential electricity rate is typically a fraction of a public Green Charger’s per-kWh price, especially against the DC fast-charging rate, so a driver who charges almost entirely at home will see a very different monthly figure from one who relies on public stations during the day. This calculator asks for that split directly rather than assuming one or the other.
It’s also worth understanding why this estimate won’t match your actual DEWA bill exactly. Dubai’s residential tariff rises in tiers as total household consumption increases, plus a monthly fuel surcharge and 5% VAT that shift slightly over time — this calculator uses one representative rate rather than modelling your entire household’s tiered bill, which depends on everything else running on your meter, not just the car.
If you’re weighing an EV against a petrol car, the fuel cost calculator lets you run the same distance on Super 98, Special 95 or Diesel for a direct comparison, and the car running cost calculator adds insurance, maintenance and financing so you can compare full ownership cost, not just the energy bill.
Official DEWA residential tariff tiers and the current Green Charger public pricing are published directly by Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, and it’s worth checking that page directly if you’re deciding between two EVs with different efficiency ratings — a small kWh/100km difference matters more at public DC fast-charging rates than it does at the home rate.
